  1. good morning big brother….hope your day is wonderful

  2. Good morning, Dusty…may yours be so as well. :-)

  3. Oh, how I like Steve Brown!! (the mothers article)

  4. Love Steve Brown’s comment “I trust God’s spirit in you”…. and us not needing to ‘mother’ (conform) everyone. There is so much freedom in that.

Missed 1 question on the Bible quiz on racism…. IMO the Bible ‘encourages” it with the division of peoples and genocide of numerous tribes outside of the Jewish ‘elect”. IMO

Right now, speaking of inerrancy, I’m wondering about golden rats and golden hemorrhoids from 1 Samuel. :-) When I looked at that link, I closed it as soon as I saw Mac. Ugh.

More later…thanks, Michael for being my fave news source.

  5. I think the real problem with the ‘What would Jesus think…” discussions is twofold.

    1) The issue of the Mosaic Law being direct from God (and as the NT says, holy, just, and good)

    2) The deity of Christ

I can grant that THEN we can discuss the details of the Law in terms of moral, civil, ceremonial. We can discuss the punishments as part of a theocracy of which we are not.

But if there is no agreement on the starting two points above, then it is futile to go further.

  6. Paigemom,

    Much love to you..

  7. Interesting thoughts in the “jazz” article. There’s actually quite a bit there that could cross over to our common critiques of modern/popular evangelicalism. We Americans tend to have a short attention span, and we are dominantly visually-oriented. Jazz (and classical, and other instrumental forms) demand more of us than that. So does deeper thinking about theology.

  8. Although the firstthings.com article stretches the bounds of my limited vocabulary, I’ve got to say I loved this part:

“Did Gopnik bother to read what he was writing there? I ask only because it is so colossally silly. If my dog were to utter such words, I should be deeply disappointed in my dog’s powers of reasoning. If my salad at lunch were suddenly to deliver itself of such an opinion, my only thought would be “What a very stupid salad.” Before all else, there is the preposterous temerity of the proprietary claim; it is like some fugitive from a local asylum appearing at the door to tell you that “all this realm” is his inalienable feudal appanage and that you must evacuate the premises forthwith. Precisely how does materialism (which is just a metaphysical postulate, of extremely dubious logical coherence) entail exclusive ownership of scientific knowledge?”

    That’s awesome. :)

  9. Michael,

Is Zack Hunt a new progressive?

Maybe I am missing something, how so?

  10. So is the Huffington Post article about Cavery Chapel? ;) Sorry…someone had to say it. :)

  11. Q,

I don’t know how new he is…but he is progressive.

  12. Whew…needed to hear the Anne Lamott word. I am actually going to read a couple of her books this summer, I think. I think I am going to take the whole summer off internet and just read. That will be “radical”. (plus I am having a reading challenge with my kids ;)

  13. Sarah,

That word has really hit home with a lot of people.
Do book reviews when you get back. :-)

  14. Dusty – I was just joking around. :) Some of the pictures are really beautiful.

  15. I thought progressive meant wanting the church to evolve with the worlds culture.

  16. NFL player fined and suspended for saying what the majority of people thought…

he said, ‘OMG” and “Horrible’ and that is all and they are making him pay….how many teens say OMG on a hourly basses…..lol this country is upside down. how many were fined for tweeting worse things about Christian Athletes.

  17. this has nothing to do with anything, but my daughter took her class on a field trip to the Holocaust museum yesterday…

  18. got 6 of 6 right on my quiz

  19. London, thanks for posting that story, it is very heartwarming and a great ‘pick me up’ ;)

  20. Tim, I read the wrong article anyway. lol I knew you were jk.

  21. Is it possible to be neutral, ho-hum, who cares? about Calvin anymore?

  22. Dan,

    Of course you can.
I enjoy his writings and thought immensely.
    Your mileage may vary.

  23. The article on jazz was very good!
I myself enjoy classical and jazz. I love instrumental music.
However, I still know the lyrics to most of the songs I like that aren’t instrumental.
Really good lyrics can be an art unto themselves.

  24. A student of my daughter, Joey Kocur’s son, Liem, was in a terrible jet skiing accident that has left him in a coma with a collapsed lung and several broken bones ….if you think of it please keep this young boy in your prayers.

  25. I understand the police side of this – you really have 2 issues
1.) who monitors the food – who is responsible for food poisoning?
2.) Surrounding neighbors – this is where I have had experience catching people on the side of my house and finding human crap on my lawn

My brother lives in Davis CA and there is no more liberal city (they have Berkley beat.) But they don’t put up with this either, just for those reasons. If there are shelters, or social services food kitchens, they need to work within that environment.

  26. Dusty I hope for the healing of all involved, if there is a donation site can you please post it. Thanks.

  27. Americans who don’t like Jazz should invest in watching the Ken Burns series “Jazz”. Game changer.
