are-you-ready-(1)“Therefore you also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.” (Matthew 24:44 ESV)

On Fridays I usually write something that is meant to encourage the reader…something creative and easy to remember that you can find helpful.

The cares of this world and the trials of life have sucked all the creativity out of me…but I will offer one thing to those who are in deep, long trials.

Be ready.

Every morning I get up to an alarm even though I currently have no need to do so.

I shower, I groom, I get my coffee, I take my medicine…I’m ready.

There is a set of pressed clothes waiting in my closet, while I wait for the call that means I need to wear them.

I’m ready.

I get ready for the day, even though I don’t have any plans for the day or know what the day holds.

I’m ready even though I’ve been ready for almost a year and a half without anything to be ready for.

I’m ready because His mercies are new every morning and in faith I anticipate His mercies for that day.

I’m ready because He is going to come into my circumstances at a time and in a way that I don’t expect…I need to be ready.

I’m ready because He promised to never leave or forsake me….which means He’s with me and working all these things for my good and His glory.

I’m ready because no situation is hopeless when your hope is in Him.

I’m ready because He told me to be ready.

He’s coming.

Be ready.

Make your own application…

  6. Thank you, Xenia!

  7. Wonderful thoughts for every day.
    Thank you!

  8. Thank you, Happymom…and welcome, if we haven’t greeted you before.

  9. Today works for me… 🙂

  10. Happymom’s been here before. She’s a warrior princess married to a gladiator.

  11. Thanks, Jim…today is all we’ve got. 🙂

  12. Beautiful reminder!

  13. Michael – such a good word for this morning. I do pray for you to find employment.

Just yesterday, I sat with the manager who hired me for my current place of employment. While we caught up on things, the director asked to speak with him in his office.

He was let go after about 15 years at this company.

There was no notice or notification sent out thanking him for his years of service and wishing him well. His cube was cleared out and no one knows anything besides the “he is no longer here.

I say all this as a reminder to myself – take each day as a blessing, for His love endures forever.”

  14. Thanks Dave and Papias… 🙂

  15. Michael
Your blog is a great blessing to read. One major theme I get from your writings is just keeping my feet firmly planted in Gods grace.
    Have a great day.

  16. Dude,

Thank you…means a lot these days.
Grace…the gift of grace received and the hope of grace expected…is where I have to live to survive.
    Bless you, my friend…

  17. Sara Groves has a new song out… I’m strangely ready… So my theme is… I’m strangely ready for what comes next!!! Love the hope…

  18. What a testimony of grace applied in the midst of extended trial. Grace is always creative even in the daily, ordinary disciplines of faith. Grace is creative, you are a writer immersed in grace. Therefore you are a creative writer drawing your audience back into grace.

  19. Hmmmm…

Unless Jerry Lee sings it, I’ll never hear it….but it sounds good. 🙂

  20. Vic,
Thank you…I hope some folks found some encouragement from it.

  21. Good article, of course and a good reminder, particularly as the news of late is disturbing… course, it always is, though I don’t watch or read it much, nor believe any of it. 🙂
Ready? If being ready means wearing a cloak of His Righteousness, then I’m in.

  22. Atta Boy, Michael !!!!!!! Do not grow weary in well doing.

    From one that knows——

  23. Tremendous illustration.

  24. Thank you, Linda…I know you know…and walked the same path.
    Thank you, Paige and Steve…

  25. Praying your readiness will be rewarded Michael.

  26. The other day someone told me that he thinks that much of Christianity is about putting yourself in a place to receive the blessing. This reminds me if that.
Getting ready to receive a blessing.

  27. Way to end the week with a verse and deep devotional like this. Very edifying.
    Blessings my brother.

  28. When Paul and Silas were beaten at Philippi because they had cast a spirit of divination out of a woman and all hope of gain was gone for her masters, the anger of those masters lashed out.

They had Paul and Silas beaten and put in jail. No doubt salt was rubbed into their wounds according to Roman custom; and they must have been in a great deal of pain.

But they were not crying and complaining about the pain. Their praise to the
Lord enabled them to transcend the physical discomfort.

They were in the will of God and they knew they were in the will of God.

They did not say,” If we are in the will of God, why were we beaten and put in jail? Since Christ is the Lord, the Lord of heaven and earth, how is it that we are being persecuted?

If He is the Lord and we are in the will of God, why did this happen?”

Reason could have taken over. Depression, rebellion, and grumbling could have come forth.

That is what happens to some of us sometimes. We may be very much in the will of God, but when adversities come against us, we do not obey the Word, “In everything give thanks, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you” ( I Thessalonians 5:18 ), and this verse also, “Give thanks always for all things in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ to God the Father’ ( Ephesians 5:20 ) .

In everything we are to give thanks.

If bitterness had filled the heart of young Daniel at the age of seventeen when he was taken as a war captive, placed in the king’s palace, and treated like an absolute slave, how different the story would have been. We do not know all that was done to him.

It is very possible that many of these young men were mutilated so that they could never have a future as a man or a father, because that was the custom.

Daniel and the three Hebrew children could have been filled with bitterness because of what had to submit to in those days.

Instead of that, Daniel’s prayers are exulting examples of the sovereign power of God over their lives to deliver them. It is an amazing thing to have the will of God wrought in your heart.

If God has done His deep work in a man, he is submissive to the will of God. That man is not depressed. He is not a grumbler. He is not ungrateful. He does not murmur against the Lord.

If a man does the will of God and the will of God is wrought in him, and he truly walks in the perfect will of God, the man sings and praises God for everything.

This Michael has demonstrated, a heart in the will of God.

At the very beginning of Paul’s life in God, the Lord told Ananias, “I will show him what great things he must suffer for My name’s sake” (Acts 9:16); and that is exactly what happened to Paul.

He suffered. I suppose there were people who came to Paul and said, “I can’t figure it out. If God truly anointed you and called you to preach, why is it that you end up in jail? Why are you beaten? Why are people always plotting against you?

Surely where there is a little smoke, there must be some fire!

Are you sure you are in the will of God, running all over the country preaching to some heathen who do not even appreciate it Paul?

They have even run you out of town. Something is wrong. Maybe you should change your style of preaching. Paul. Use a little diplomacy. You ought to learn how to win friends and influence people.

Perhaps then you could settle down and have a ministry that would be well accepted Paul.”

Have you heard that kind of reasoning?

Michael is in the will of God. Michael has his hope in God. Michael like Paul and Silas will rejoice in Christ…

  29. Michael, I am finishing my night with your powerful missive. I am humbled to read your words. They make much of our holy God. They make me yearn to be more like my Savior. Your ministry reaches much farther than So. Oregon. I am so grateful.

  30. Francisco, David, Larry…thank you all for reading and contributing here.
    I’m glad this made a little difference…

  31. Some of us still have polyester suits waiting in the closet.
