MAIN-Cecil-the-LionThere was a lot of rage flying yesterday, as rage is the currency of the internet.

I am older now and rage takes its toll on me, so I have to acquire and spend my own rage carefully.

Others, evidently, need not be so judicious.

There was rage over the story of a Minnesota dentist who killed a beloved African lion for sport.

I was outraged at this story and at the pathetic, flaccid, excuse for a human who pulled the trigger.

There was rage over the third Planned Parenthood video that showed us once again the depths of human depravity and the evil that we embrace as a “right”.

I shared in this outrage as well.

There was one more source of rage as well.

That was from people who were outraged at people who were outraged over the death of the lion, but not sufficiently outraged at the Planned Parenthood video.

Now, I have been practicing outrage for six decades and have the ability to be outraged over more than one thing at a time.

The internet has greatly helped me with skill development in this area.

I don’t need to be told what to get mad about.

What we’re missing here is that the Planned Parenthood videos are creating cultural cognitive dissonance at a level never before seen.

For thirty years the culture has been indoctrinated to believe that abortion was simply a “medical procedure”, that it was morally neutral, and that it was simply a woman exercising her right to control her own body.

Never before has the grisly reality of the practice been so widely shown as through the videos circulating today.

The culture has now been led into a room, the door slammed and nailed shut, and we have been forced to see what we have chosen to affirm in all it’s horror.

Millions of women who have undergone the procedure and millions of men who have affirmed their choice are seeing the real result of that decision.

For these people to express outrage over abortion they first have to deal with the guilt and shame of having participated in what they are now supposed to be outraged about.

For this barbarity to end, we have to do more than be outraged.

Shaming people for loving animals is pure folly…we need to focus on extending that love for living creatures to loving human babies in the womb.

Our message cannot be criticism over having a heart for animals, but must be a Gospel message that enlarges the heart of a country with a seared conscience.

We have to speak repentance and grace to those who are dealing with their own complicity in the carnage.

We need to be the church of Jesus Christ who died for abortionists and lion killers.

Changing laws will help, but only the Gospel can change a heart.

We must speak that Gospel in love…some are now ready to listen.

  1. I have PLENTY of outrage over the Planned Parenthood videos. I just read there a total of nine and they get progressively worse.

I just have not been able to get my thoughts together coherently to write about it. I did write about Cecil last night, however. And I cried as I did it.

I found this article to be pretty provocative concerning the media and Planned Parenthood:
    http://dailycaller.com/2015/07/29/top-feminist-issues-stunning-rebuke-for-medias-total-silence-on-planned-parenthood/

  2. I assume I’m one of the people you write of from the 3rd group. If not, I definitely fit the description.

It’s not a matter of shaming people for loving animals. That’s a straw man. It’s a matter of shining light on the cognitive dissonance between a single dead lion dominating the major media news outlets, and the relative silence on the Planned Parenthood evil.

The reason for silence is apparent. In light of the videos, it becomes increasingly difficult to label a fetus as a mere “clump of tissue.” After all, how can the organs be human enough for medical business, but yet the babies from which they originated not be human? The lie of abortion is readily exposed through this scandal, and it’s not lost on those who actively support Planned Parenthood.

I do not think for a moment that you (or any other Christian I know) support PP in the slightest. And I can say for certain that my Facebook comments yesterday were not focused against any Christian individual. My comments are pointed at media hypocrisy and deception (of which there is plenty).

  3. Well said. Thank you….. Love you comment about age and using your rage wisely. 🙂 Amen.

I must say that I’ve been thanking God for and praying for whoever is responsible for the Planned Parenthood undercover videos…. very brave and stealthy.
I am incredibly grieved at the dark sickness that is in me, all of us…and what this country has made legal…..and so relieved for Grace and Hope in Jesus Christ.

Love you. So glad you have AC this very hot year…..

  4. Tim,

There was so much rage yesterday that your rage got lost in the shuffle.

At some point people need to quit bitching about the media…the major media in this country today are Facebook and Twitter…and Facebook and Twitter were flooded with the story and have been since the first video.

Yes, the lie has been exposed…now what do we do to help the people who see the truth?

  5. Paige,

Thank you…love you too, my friend.

  6. I’m outraged over the acts themselves….murder of unborn babies and selling their body parts and the egotistical hunting and murder of a beautiful lion…..I’m not outraged over people’s response to them. The senseless acts of murder are worthy of my outrage….I don’t have much else left in me.

  7. “The senseless acts of murder are worthy of my outrage….I don’t have much else left in me.”

    Amen and amen.

  8. “There was so much rage yesterday that your rage got lost in the shuffle.”
    – I must not be sufficiently outrageous. Guess I’m going to have to work on my contentiousness. 🙂

“Yes, the lie has been exposed…now what do we do to help the people who see the truth?”
    – Interestingly, I’ve gotten more response on the PP stuff than anything else I’ve put on FB…much of it from an old acquaintance from high school who is now an atheist & political liberal. He is debating his side of things, and I’m actually saying very little in response (mostly due to a lack of time). What I’ve seeing are a bunch of my FB friends engaging him and expressing their points of view.

I don’t know that any of this will change his mind/heart, but that’s certainly my prayer. If nothing else, it’s caused a confirmed atheist to constantly check the newsfeed of an evangelical pastor. Who knows what will come of that?

  9. I am actually very happy that so many people are upset over the death of a beloved lion because that means not all hearts are hardened, there is still some tenderness.

If there have been millions of abortions in the US, that number represents not only murdered babies but also their murderous* mothers. They have a vested interest in keeping their consciences clear, telling themselves it’s legal so they are innocent. They are not going to be upset about the Planned P revelations because they know they are complicit and to look too deeply into this means to realize they are guilty of murder.

So they deflect their emotions onto this lion. They have no complicity in his death so they are free to rage with a clear conscience.

    * murderous mothers. I hesitate to use this phrase because from my experience as a pregnancy counselor, almost all (100 percent, in my limited experience) of the women who had (or wanted to have) an abortion did so because there was some man in their life who insisted on it, either by demanding an abortion or by denying support (physical and emotional).

  10. We can’t allow ourselves to “run out” of outrage towards the pure evil that is the abortion industry. I’m trying to understand the delicacy required to communicate about the issue without causing disrepair among the repentant participants, but we can’t grow numb to the heinous nature of the act. The fact that PP receives my tax dollars is an issue I’ll avoid to keep my blood pressure down.

  11. Well you won’t see many more undercover PP vids until 8/?/15 as a local CA judge but a restraining order on future releases until a hearing. This is for CA only, as I hope there will be more from other states. Since the Feds were interested in the source/legality of the vids over PP law breaking, much like CA, I foresee the same restraining order being adopted at the Fed level. This is sick……

  12. I don’t do the online rage thing. However, I can’t help but notice the irony in those who go so crazy over animal cruelty, but think abortion is just a choice. Both ARE bad, but any are only focused on the animals. It is weird.

My problem with the PP videos is that they may hurt Planned Parenthood, but I don’t think they are going to make a dent in abortions. I guess it is still good to shine a light on an evil organization, but I wish we could find a good strategy to decrease the actual number of abortions.

  13. Romans 1:25 They exchanged the truth about God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator–who is forever praised. Amen.

Our US seculaur culture along with a late night comedian and the USFW will go on a witch hunt
to get a hunter who killed a lion. But when it comes to the unborn children who are
crushed, pulled a part in there mothers womb, have there brain vaccumed out. Its so grievous our culture, proudly calls this “Womens Rights”.
And even corporations like StarBucks donate heavily to the Planned Parenthood to support womens
Even Obama said I quote” May God Bless Parenthood.”

Truly the prophecy of Jesus is being fullfilled now and will continue until his 2nd coming.
” In the end times, they (the world) will call good, evil, and evil good.

  14. I need to not take the bait and enter into an unforgiving rage…

    http://shekinahfellowship.blogspot.com/2015/07/staying-in-groove.html

  15. I would kill all the lions in the world to save one of my grandchildren, or any other child anywhere anytime.

  16. Oddly enough, I know of no correlation between killing lions and saving children.
    You’re still banned.
    Go away.

  17. 1) I wish there was some hunter from deep space who would make a trophy out of the Minnesota dentist.

    2) I have always been pro-life and very anti-abortion, that will not change. I cried like a little kid when I went through all the latest graphic material. The people who allow this and rationalize it are no better than Herr Doktor Mengele.
