Wholly and completely agree. Well done…

  2. Michael says:

    Thank, Duane.
I encourage feedback on these standards…I am just the steward here, it belongs to the community.
Part of my stewardship entails setting good standards, but I want all of us to take responsibility for what we have here.

    I very much like this.

We have a lot of good discussion around here but the trap we often seem to fall into is covered by #3. The debating and arguing loses a tone of respect and grace and instead turns into a tone of condescension and attack. Then when this happens, it triggers #4 as the lines start getting blurred between tearing apart the issue being debated and tearing apart the person.

And, of course when #6 (the trolling) happens, it often creates a quick pathway to failures of maintaining #3 & #4.

  4. John 20:29 says:

Michael, do you feel Christ’s hand on your shoulder this morning? i think you might as this statement of a code of conduct here just has to please Him… God keep

that said, i do miss the old night crew here that could get into it sometimes – scattered on different paths now and that is most likely according to God’s will as what we used to call interesting and entertaining heated debate doesn’t seem to happen anywhere anymore

  5. Michael says:

    KevinH,

    Thanks.

I can’t maintain this on my own…the community here will have to self police a lot.

I want us to be the best we can be…

  6. Kevin H says:

This community has its good days and its bad ones. We can always strive to have many more good ones.

I’m just surprised there was no special dispensation of protection for J.I. Packer, Jerry Lee Lewis, or the Minnesota Vikings? 🙂

  7. filbertz says:

While I haven’t commented much for a while, I read here regularly. I agree with these expectations and the consequences for violation. It is wise to publish them, and more wise to enforce them. Wisest of all is to follow them without having to be told.

  8. Michael says:

    Em,

The thing that bothers me that about 5% of the people that read here, comment here.
I want to take away any barriers to participation…and maybe the night crew will reassemble.

Thanks for being a true “pillar” of this community…and a real friend to me.

  9. Michael says:

    KevinH,

Those protections go unsaid but rigidly enforced… 🙂

  10. Michael says:

    fil,

I think you should write for us… but you know that. 🙂
Thanks for chiming in, my friend.

  11. Paige says:

    Excellent. Good word.

In the “immortal” words of E.T. “Be gooooooood”.

  12. Michael says:

    Thanks, Paige. 🙂

  13. John 20:29 says:

i confess that i get caught up in the thots here and forget that there is such a large community of lurkers out there – some saying ‘amen’ and some, no doubt, saying to themselves, ‘d*mmit, that’s wrong headed’ … i’m kind of glad i do because if i stop and think that it isn’t just this 5%, i’d never post my scattered, but God-fearing thots – ever… i don’t think… then again, i was never shy about taking exception to my very intelligent, very logical and almost always right late husbands declarations… maybe i have a myopia of some sort… no matter, i’m happy in my condition 🙂

that said, it would be wonderful if everyone who comes by here felt as safe as i do to share their hearts and minds – risk having them softened and, maybe even changed by their participation in the dialog …. or maybe finding joy in being understood and affirmed…

  14. Martin Luther's Disciple says:

    Michael,
I will try to stay within limits — but I will be watching your example the next time someone comes to the defense off Mike Kestler – 🙂

  15. Michael says:

“that said, it would be wonderful if everyone who comes by here felt as safe as i do to share their hearts and minds – risk having them softened and, maybe even changed by their participation in the dialog …. or maybe finding joy in being understood and affirmed…”

    That’s the goal…well said, Em.

  16. Michael says:

    MLD,

    Let’s be blunt.
These guidelines will be harder for you and me than most.
I have to stay within the guidelines I’ve set…and resist the temptation to skewer Kestler fans.

    We can do this… 🙂

  17. Josh the Baptist says:

And sin, seizing an opportunity through the commandment, produced in me coveting of every kind. For apart from the law sin is dead.

    But I’ll be good 🙂

  18. JD says:

Maybe put a button at the top of the page or a link on top of one of the sidebars where the code of conduct can be easily referenced.

  19. Michael says:

    JD,
We will make some permanent links on the sidebar.

  20. Jean says:

    Michael,

Would an article on the Song of Solomon be off limits?

  21. EricL says:

Well said, Michael, all the way until that last line. On that one, I greatly disagree.

    You want a © not an @

    🙂

  22. Michael says:

    Jean,
    I can’t imagine why it would be…

  23. Michael says:

    I’ll fix that , Eric… 🙂

  24. DavidM says:

Nicely stated and long overdue. Glad to see it.

  25. Dan from Georgia says:

    Good decision Michael!

  26. Xenia says:

I think we could use some folks from other types of churches. We’ve chased away every Roman Catholic that has ever dared to post. I think we need to hear from them.

  27. John 20:29 says:

    amen to Xenia’s #27

Jean mentioned writing on the Song of Solomon – the book has so many applications to real life as well as to Christ, Himself… it couldn’t be done in just one week IMNSHO

  28. dusty says:

Kind of sadens me that this had to be written. But it is what it is. Well written big brother.

  29. Michael says:

Thanks, Dusty…it’s a good practice to have such. 🙂

  30. Michael says:

My guess is that Duane might know an RC or two that might be willing to participate…

  31. Duane Arnold says:

    #31 Michael

Indeed I do… including a bishop or two or three….

  32. John 20:29 says:

i have known many R.C.s – several married into the family and my mother and stepfather’s home was next door to the parish house for the cathedral in their city…
like the rest of us, they’ve been all over the map in living their lives in Christ – but the most grace and affirmation that i was ever shown in my walk came from an old R.C. priest…
for the record there was a Baptist minister (i wasn’t one) who came in close second… many souls were blessed by those two men – so far apart in doctrines and so close in showing Christ in their way of living among us

now those of you, who channel your prayers thru Mary have never been able to explain that one so it made any sense at all to me… somehow, i do believe however, that those beads do get some of us Christians focused – maybe the icons do too – dunno…

  33. Captain Kevin says:

But I like being snarky! Speaking of snarky, where are you, London?! 😎

  34. JTK says:

    Solid.

    Great.

    DO IT.

And be strengthened. You’ve helped so many already.
