At the risk of putting a kibash on this link, this old lady thinks it is a must read… “If we confess our sins….” This is not the same as confessing that i AM a sinner. .. and Baker may have just nailed what has eroded today’s Evangelical commy Repent and repent and repent again even if you must, with Paul, cry out that you are a wretched man (generic) … some of us are naturally nice, but most of us arent and we need to own up daily as best we can… ask the Father’s forgiveness and keep walking – in the light, not towards it . (sorry bout that) Babylon's Dread says: March 13, 2018 at 12:01 pm Let’s see I read about the guy whose girlfriend understands him better than he understands what he is even chirping about. I agree with her and find his apostasy to be nothing more than a confirmation of what already existed. Babylon's Dread says: March 13, 2018 at 12:04 pm The more I read about Mr Savage the more convinced I am that nobody really cares about the truth only what mileage they can get from the story. I have no idea what happened to him to his accuser within his church or even on that Sunday because every reading you attempt is laced with the desire of the writer to shape the narrative. We live in a caricatured world of words. Truth Seeker Dread John 20:29 says: March 13, 2018 at 12:55 pm What is a woman? My take away were two things that i could agree with: marriage [as nice as it is] does not define a woman and bearing children is not our highest calling Any woman who is feeling beat up by outside [church] expectations sshould read this link…. On the other hand one should not go to seed on any one point rhis professor makes… but i do think common sense is a Christrian attribute… Captain Kevin says: March 13, 2018 at 3:17 pm We are in a crisis of touch. A pat on the back, a hug, a squeeze of the shoulder…these are biologically/psychologically comforting. That is, unless someone has ripped away that positive response, such as what happened with the victims at Morningstar. Imagine telling a doctor not to give a hug to that patient whom you’ve just had to tell that their cancer has progressed, because of fear of litigation. Lord, have mercy. Captain Kevin says: March 13, 2018 at 3:28 pm Just last week, a girl who was in my class last year, came walking up to me with tears in her eyes and her arms out. She was desperately in need of a hug from someone she trusts. My first thought was about what others would think. My second thought was “Who cares?” She got what she needed in that moment, and then I escorted her to the counselor. If someone wants to sue me for that, let ‘em. John 20:29 says: March 13, 2018 at 4:07 pm CK, may God bless you…. Nothing warms my heart more than a hug from my handsome son… hugs from people we trust give us courage and strength, too… I read the link with anger … How horrible are the exploiters of this fact to serve their own corrupted, evil designs, either as givers or receivers.. Can such people repent? I suspect they cant even appreciate a holy God… Dunno John 20:29 says: March 13, 2018 at 10:00 pm The truth about men and church… What is a woman? these two links should be read together IMHO… kudos to linkathon for posting them both together brian says: March 13, 2018 at 11:50 pm Stephen Hawking passed today/yesterday depending on the time zone at 76 he struggled with ALS for most of his adult life. Less than an hour after his passing people were already consigning him to hell, like living with ALS was not hell enough. Some very vile horrid comments concerning his disability and God’s wrath etc were also present in the social media networks. I wont go into what the people I work/worked with have been called but well it upset me. It should not have because mocking dead people is a time-honored tradition in some religious and nonreligious circles. In our click centered society it is gold to get likes, hates, whatever just as long as one gets noticed. I agree it is a fringe that does this and social media makes it easier to get noticed and to gain fame at the cost of one’s soul. Not having one of those I don’t get the bargain but well like I have often been told, that’s irrelevant. Duane Arnold says: March 14, 2018 at 4:18 am #9 Brian I saw some of those hate filled posts as well. As a counter-balance may I offer the Tweet of James Martin, SJ – “RIP #StephenHawking: A triumphant life lived in the shadow of great suffering. The great thinker did not believe in God, but it seemed to me that his whole life was a revelation of God’s love. May he rest in peace, and may the mysteries of the universe be fully revealed to him.” Scooter Jones says: March 14, 2018 at 6:01 am I personally didn’t see any “hate filled” posts on social media, then again, I wasn’t looking for them. I did pick this quote attributed to him from a science related blog though. “We are just an advanced breed of monkeys on a minor planet of a very average star. But we can understand the Universe. That makes us something very special. ~Stephen Hawking” That’s sad that if he really believed that. Jean says: March 14, 2018 at 8:44 am Here was something graciously written on the passing of Hawking, from a Christian perspective: http://www.patheos.com/blogs/preventingrace/2018/03/14/rip-stephen-hawking/#WImfePQ6qTYLh6fR.99 Jerod says: March 14, 2018 at 8:55 am May Stephen Hawkings final hours have been filmed with true revelation. May he have finally come to know the One in Whom all things consist. Jerod says: March 14, 2018 at 8:57 am filled, not filmed… voice to text – I must have mumbled. John 20:29 says: March 14, 2018 at 11:54 am i once heard that the founder of Reasons to Believe, Hugh Ross, had a prolonged meeting with Hawking at the request of Hawking’s then wife… Hawking held his ground, he will be without excuse on judgement day, but how many of us prayed for him while he was using his brain to discover the universe… i guess i should pray for Joy Behar and i confess that i don’t want to… God have mercy on both of us John 20:29 says: March 14, 2018 at 11:56 am hmmm… i posted my thots on Hawking and i am in moderation… ? … well, it is what it is and i yam what i yam 🙂 j2theperson says: March 14, 2018 at 1:03 pm The article on how a father’s church attendance influences that of his children was interesting. It’s numbers seemed a little optimistic compared to my own family’s experience. My parents both attended church basically every week. 2 of us 6 kids regularly attend church, which is in line with their statistics. But the rest do not attend at all which is much worse than their statistics. Eric says: March 14, 2018 at 2:49 pm The article “The true sin of American evangelicals in the age of Trump…” links to a longer article in the Atlantic which was also interesting. Duane Arnold says: March 14, 2018 at 2:57 pm #18 Eric Yes, the Gerson piece in the Atlantic is worth reading. BTW, He was interviewed today on NPR’s news hour… Leave a Reply Cancel reply Your Comment You may use these HTML tags and attributes: <a href="" title=""> <abbr title=""> <acronym title=""> <b> <blockquote cite=""> <cite> <code> <del datetime=""> <em> <i> <q cite=""> <s> <strike> <strong> Name (required) E-mail (required) URI Notify me of follow-up comments by email.
